Police: Man Set Dumpsters on Fire in West Hempstead

Police said the man also resisted arrest when confronted by officers.

Nassau County Police said they have arrested a man for allegedly setting fire to four separate dumpsters in West Hempstead.

Four Precinct officers said they responded to the fires on July 4 at the following time and locations: 525 Hempstead Turnpike at 5 a.m., 346 Hempstead Turnpike at 5:15 a.m., 543A Hempstead Turnpike at 5:30 a.m. and 621 Hempstead Turnpike at 5:50 a.m.

After an investigation it was discovered that the defendant Emmanuel Borg, 24, of Queens, had set fire to the above listed dumpsters, police said.

At the final location of 621 Hempstead Turnpike, Borg allegedly took a bundle of newspapers in front of CVS and set fire to the dumpster belonging to the store. Borg then resisted arrest by kicking his legs, feet and refusing to be handcuffed, police said. Officers were able to gain control of the defendant and place him under arrest.

Borg is being charged with fourth degree arson, three counts of fifth degree arson, petty larceny and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned on July 5 at First District Court, Hempstead.
