Police: NYPD Officer Hit Five Cars in Wrong-Way Driving DWI

Incident took place on the Southern State in West Hempstead.

A New York City police officer was arrested early Saturday morning for DWI after allegedly driving on the wrong side of the Southern State Parkway and hitting five other cars.

According to New York State Police, around 1:45 a.m., a Mazda MPV was spotted driving the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway, eastbound in the westbound lanes, near exit 17 in West Hempstead.

Police said the Mazda struck five vehicles and the operator of the Mazda, 48-year-old Ronald Holmes, of Elmont, was subsequently arrested for DWI.

One person was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for minor injuries and three others were treated at the accident scene, but not admitted.

Holmes was arrested for DWI, reckless endangerment in the second degree, reckless driving and several traffic violations. He was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court.
