Two Injured Outside West Hempstead Library

Car carrying two crashes into hydrant.

Two people were injured early Friday evening when the driver of a small sedan swerved to avoid another vehicle making a turn on Hempstead Avenue near the West Hempstead Public Library.

The car crossed a lane of oncoming traffic and struck a fire hydrant before coming to a halt in front of 523 Hempstead Avenue.

Firefighters and EMS personnel from the West Hempstead Fire Department were quickly on the scene to assist the injured and secure the accident site.

The two male occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to Winthrop Medical Center by West Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department ambulance.
