West Hempstead Fights 99-Cent Store Fire, Arson Investigation Underway

Firefighters from West Hempstead help extinguish blaze at 99 Cent Store Wednesday morning.

West Hempstead firefighters helped extinguish a blaze Wednesday that broke out in a local 99 Cent Store, which officials say is being investigated as an arson case.

Approximately 60 volunteer firefighers from West Hempstead, Hempstead and Baldwin responded to the call just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday that the store, located on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead, was in flames.

The fire spread to an adjoining store too, according to Nassau County Police. Fortunately, both buildings were unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

The County's Arson Bomb Squad and Fire Marshal were present at the scene also and are investigating.
