A West Hempstead man was one of five suspects arrested after an alleged assault and robbery in Roosevelt Sunday night.
According to Nassau County detectives, around 7:15 p.m, a 25-year-old male was walking on Newton Place in Roosevelt when he exchanged words with the five defendants.
The defendants then punched and kicked the victim, knocking him to the ground, police said.
When the victim’s 23-year-old male friend went to intervene, he was struck in the face numerous times, police said.
The defendants removed an unknown amount of cash from the 25 year old’s jacket pocket and fled the scene on foot, police said.
The 25 year old sustained a swollen left eye and contusion to the rear of the head but refused medical assistance, police said. The 23 year old was not injured.
First Precinct police officers responded and conducted an investigation, police said. After an extensive search the defendants were located on Allers Boulevard and taken into custody. They are:
- Wesley Reyes, 20, of Roosevelt
- Abdul Robinson, 21, of West Hempstead
- Brian Marshall, 17, of South Floral Park
- Leshont Rodney-Saunders, 18, of Roosevelt
- Jeffrey Lee, 18, of Roosevelt
All the defendants were charged with robbery in the second degree and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
