A Report From the Lynbrook Village Board Meeting

Girls cross country track team honored, more grant money for streetscaping.

The following are some of the topics discussed at Monday's Lynbrook village board meeting.

  • Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce president Bill Gaylor expressed his gratitude to the village board for printing up a flier highlighting the advantages of the Lynbrook community to prospective business owners. Copies of the flier are available at Lynbrook Village Hall.
  • The Nassau County Conference III champion varsity girls cross country track team, the Lynbrook Lady Owls, was honored at Village Hall on Monday. Head coach Joe Beyrer joined the girls in receiving honorary citations from Lynbrook Mayor Bill Hendrick. The girls finished with a 12-1 record to take home its first conference title since 1986.   • The board will file an application to claim $225,000 in funds it is eligible for from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. This money, which is distributed through Legis. Francis Becker's office, will be used to continue the village's streetscaping project on Hempstead Avenue near Alexander Avenue and Duncan Avenue.
  • After postponing it last year, village officials announced that the Mayor's Centennial Golf Outing will be held on May 19. The event honors Michael McEnerney of the St. Mary Maris Stella Council # 2228 Knights of Columbus., and all proceeds go to the Lynbrook Community Chest.
  • Village officials announced that all voting machines have been moved to the Lynbrook Recreation Center, which will be the only polling location for Lynbrook residents. Officials said the move saves the village close to $12,000 by having everything in one place. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
  • Joined by members of the Lynbrook police, the board watched a presentation on megapixel surveillance cameras, courtesy of ADT. The village has grant money to use toward upgrading of surveillance equipment, and officials are looking at possibly upgrading their technology. Get the full story .
