Becker, Curran at Campaign Headquarters

Two Lynbrook residents running for office watch polling numbers in hometown.

Before heading off to Republican headquarters in Westbury last night, state and Congressional candidate Francis Becker () spent some time at their joint campaign headquarters on Earle Avenue in Lynbrook, where they watched the polls with a packed house of supporters.

It was a long night for those waiting for the results to come in. As of 10 p.m. — one hour after polls closed — there were no numbers posted on the Nassau County Board of Elections website. Even by 1 a.m. the next morning, most districts only had about half of the precincts counted.

But Becker and Curran kept the atmosphere light at headquarters, despite the obvious tension over a close battle between Becker and his opponent, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-Mineola, a couple hours after polls closed. The two thanked their supporters, and pointed out different members of the campaign who had helped bring them to Election Day.

Becker and Curran also made a brief stop at Lynbrook's VFW Post, where there was free food and drink for all supporters.
