Lynbrook Students Win Prestigious State Awards

Assemblyman Curran's Future Leader of New York State Award presented to four locals.

Assemblyman Brian Curran, R-Lynbrook, presented his Future Leader of New York State award to Lynbrook residents Joseph Tomasso (Lynbrook High School) and David Hobbs (East Rockaway High School) at their schools’ recent awards ceremonies for graduating high school seniors.

In addition, Curran presented this award to graduating eighth graders Ashley O’Reilly (St. Raymond’s School) and James O’Connor (Our Lady of Peace School).

The students were selected for their demonstrated commitment to their communities and their leadership abilities.

“Young people like these recipients are what our state needs,” Curran said. “With this award, I want to encourage a higher level of thinking that wakes up the imagination of our young adults, so that when they continue their education and eventually get out into the world, they will hold a special regard for public service, and consider how they can contribute their own unique talents and energies toward making the world a better place.

"Joseph, David, James, and Ashley certainly hold that promise for their own futures," Curran said.

Curran is continuing the Future Leader of New York State Award tradition that was initiated by his predecessor, former Assemblyman Bob Barra. A graduating senior from each high school in his district, as well as graduating 8th graders from the private and parochial schools, will be honored during the graduation season.
