Nassau Legislators Approve Mangano's Policing Plan
All 19 Nassau legislators voted along party lines Monday, approving County Executive Ed Mangano's policing plan by a 10-9 margin.
The nine Democratic members of the legislature focused their argument against the realignment on the concept that it simply wasn't ready.
Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams, D-Hempstead, attempted to table the vote on the precinct plan until more details were made available. However, the motion was voted down – again by party lines – and, eventually, the realignment was approved.

Dale Confirmed as Police Commissioner
Prior to Monday's vote on the precinct realignment, the Nassau Legislature also confirmed Thomas Dale as Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) Commissioner.
The confirmation vote – like the two relating to the realignment – fell along party lines.
The Democratic legislators strongly felt that since Dale backed the realignment, he was not ready to be commissioner. However, the Republican majority sided with Dale's leadership and approved his status.
"I am pleased the County Legislature confirmed my appointment of Tom Dale as Commissioner of the NCPD," Mangano said in a statement Monday. "Having served as a three-star New York City Police Chief, Tom Dale's 42 years of experience in police matters will truly benefit the people of Nassau County. Commissioner Dale is undertaking a critical review of departmental operations and will provide distinguished leadership within the department."
County Searching for PR Firm to Help Create, Keep Jobs
The Nassau County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) is apparently looking for a PR firm to promote the county as a place to create and maintain jobs.
According to PRWeek, the goal of the selected firm will be to encourage economic development throughout Nassau. The firm will be expected to create a media plan based on market research, according to an RFQ.
Applications are due March 15, with a decision expected by March 20. The county is offering a two-year contact with the possibility that more than one agency will be selected, according to the search documents.
The IDA consists of a team of professionals whose mission is to promote the economic welfare and prosperity of Nassau County.
