Santino Reelected to Town Board

Santino wins in landslide against Gillespie.

Residents reelected long time Town Councilman Anthony J. Santino Tuesday.

Santino, a member of the Hempstead town board since 1993, defeated Patrick P. Gillespie Jr., D-Bay Park. Santino garnered 18,498 votes against Gillespie's 7,641.

Santino, R-East Rockaway, earned a bachelor's degree from St. John's University and served as Town of Hempstead's director of communications for six years before he was elected to the board. He is a member of several organizations in the area, including the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Sons of Italy, Holy Name Society, Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, and St. Raymond's Roman Catholic Church in East Rockaway.

"In times like these, local government has an obligation to extend a helping hand to ease taxpayers' burdens," Santino told Patch. "I want to continue doing my job responsibly and responsively by listening to and helping our neighbors."
