Snow Halts Mail Delivery to Malverne and West Hempstead

Postal delivery trucks fail to arrive at Malverne and West Hempstead Post Offices.

The service counter at the Malverne Post Office opened on Monday, but don't expect to receive any deliveries.

The truck carrying mail for Malverne residents failed to arrive in town due to the blizzard, according to an employee at the post office.

"I made some deliveries this morning to businesses that actually opened up," he said, but explained that these were packages that had come into the post office prior to the snowstorm. They had not been delivered until now because the shops were closed for their Christmas vacations.

Residents wishing to drop of packages and purchase stamps can still do so as the counter will be open until 5p.m. as usual in Malverne.

The West Hempstead Post Office appeared to be closed completely for the day as numerous calls to the office's main line went unanswered. Antoinette, an employee at the Malverne Post Office who chose not to give her last name, said West Hempstead also did not receive any mail delivery trucks.

"Everyone's in the same boat," she said.

She expects the truck to arrive in Malverne on Tuesday, at which point postal delivery will resume, but warned, "It's going to be behind schedule."

That’s very nice that school districts that have the highest school taxes and costs, areRead More receiving additional money. The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

.......there they go again whitewashing a dilemma they don't want to touch......unconscionableRead More salaries and pensions paid by the taxpayer for incompetence? Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
