Aker Announces Retirement From Malverne School Board

Trustee Karen Aker will step down from the Board of Education in June.

After 16 years on the Malverne school board, Trustee Karen Aker will be stepping down in June.

Instead, of running for re-election this May, Aker, of Lynbrook, announced at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting that she will be retiring on June 30.

"I will always have a special place in my heart for the children, staff and residents of the Malverne school district," Aker told the small crowd of parents, faculty, students, school officials and fellow board members gathered at the March 13 meeting. They gave her a standing ovation.

"I have had the honor of serving on the board for five years with Karen. Her character and commitment to the school district is above reproach," said Board Trustee Gina Genti. "She votes with her heart and always wants to do what's best for the children and taxpayers of this district...I'm sorry to see her go."

Last week, that he would be running for Aker's seat on the school board.
