L.I. Title Preview: Lynbrook vs. Sayville

Golden Flashes winners of championships in 2004, 2006, and 2008.

One might say Lynbrook is playing against the odds in today's Conference III Long Island title game versus Sayville, champions in the even years of 2004, 2006 and 2008.

But coming off its first county championship since 1992, Lynbrook (10-1) is looking to break Sayville's pattern, and take home an L.I. title of its own.

Lynbrook and Sayville have a similar storyline headed into today's game, which is at 4:30 p.m. at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Each team lost only one game during the regular season — Lynbrook to Lawrence, Sayville to Islip — and both went on to defeat those same teams in their respective county championship games last week.

The Owls' offense has been firing on all cylinders in these playoffs. Running back Travis Lock has eight touchdowns and over 500 yards rushing in his past two games. Quarterback Paul Magloire is also running the ball well, and running back/linebacker Mike Kozlakowski is contributing big plays on both offense and defense.

Lynbrook's defense has also been strong in these playoffs, allowing just 34 points in the past three games.

Sayville running back John Haggart has come alive at just the right time, rushing for over 100 yards in each of the past five games. The team's passing game, led by quarterback Steven Ferreira, is also a threat.

So expect an even playing field, even as the odds are, well, we'll see.
