Lynbrook Music Students Help Island Harvest While Fundraising

Music department raises money for Disney trip while providing fresh fruit to those in need.

When Lynbrook High School music students embarked on their annual fundraising campaign to earn money for a trip to Disney World, they found a clever way to also help Island Harvest in the process.

To defray the cost of the music department’s annual trip to Disney World in May, students ran a fruit sale fundraiser. This year they made arrangements to offer their supporters the opportunity to buy a box of fruit to donate to Island Harvest. They were able to sell more than 1,000 boxes to lower the cost of their trip.

A total of 75 of the crates of fruit that they sold will be donated to Island Harvest, providing fresh fruit for hungry residents of Long Island. With many residents displaced from their homes by Hurricane Sandy, Island Harvest was especially happy to be able to distribute fresh fruit to those who currently find themselves without many of the basic necessities of life.
