Academic achievement, security and the school budget will be among the topics explored at tonight's meeting of the Lynbrook school board.
The Board of Education will begin the monthly business meeting at 6:30 p.m. inside Lynbrook High School, but the trustees may entertain a motion to go into Executive Session right away. The public session of the meeting will then resume at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The agenda for tonight's meeting includes a presentation of a portrait commemorating the the district's revered superintendent who suffered a fatal heart attack in August.
There will also be a presentation on the middle schools English Language Arts program, and reports from school board members regarding the policy, and health and safety committees, school events, and the National School Boards Association Federal Relations Network Conference held in late January in Washington, DC.
The board will revisit the district's communication plan and security, which are listed under "Old Business." It will also continue its monthly updates on the district's Stratgic Plan, this time focusing on Academic Achievement and Staff Development. "Fire Inspection" is the only "New Business" item on the agenda.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Melissa Burak will discuss the tax levy cap and 2013-14 school budget during her monthly report, as well as make an announcement regarding summer playground.
As always, residents will have a chance to address the board during the public comment portion of the meeting.
