Lynbrook's Fifth Annual 'Night of the Pumpkins' a Feast for the Eyes

By Rosemary Leonetti

Those attending Lynbrook High School’s Night of the Pumpkins on Oct. 26 were treated to a glowing, glimmering fall feast for the eyes.

At this annual event, National Art Honor Society members put their artistic talents to work for charity, filling the high school field with one-of-a-kind hand-carved jack-o-lanterns. Net proceeds from the event, which totaled more than $2,200, will be used to benefit the Zach Bernstein Fund and NAHS Scholarship Fund.

NAHS members gathered early on the morning of Oct. 26 to carve 150 pumpkins into works of art—a feat that took over five hours to complete. That evening, they lit their unique jack-o-lantern sculptures for all to enjoy. The pumpkins, which were available for sale, were quickly snatched up by buyers eager to own one of these artfully carved creations.

Children were invited to come in costume. Activities included face painting, mummy wrapping and raffles. Halloween treats were artfully prepared by members of the Culinary Arts Club, working under the direction of adviser Lauren Reganato.

NAHS members organized the entire event with the assistance of adviser Michael Kunz, high school art department chairperson Vincent Lentini and the entire teaching staff of the high school art department.

“This event was once again a tremendous success,” said Lentini. “Through the creativity and hard work of NAHS members, Night of the Pumpkins has become another proud Lynbrook tradition.”
