Malverne High School's Varsity Football team was hoping to come away from Saturday's homecoming game with its first win of the season, but the Mules fell to Mineola, 28-6.
Following a festive parade down Ocean Avenue, Malverne students and fans packed the stands to cheer on the Mules on Oct. 13.
Mineola came out strong, taking a 15-0 lead early in the game, but Malverne's Jamal Aaron Hill put the Mules on the board late in the second quarter with a 21-yard touchdown. (Malverne's attempt at the extra two points failed.)
After a riveting half-time show featuring the Pride of Malverne High School Marching Band, the current reigning New York State Champions, the Mules tried to coordinate a comeback but could not overcome Mineola. In the final 10 of the game, Mineola's Brian Gaffney scored two touchdowns, extending the team's lead to 28-6.
Malverne, who is now 0-6 in Nassau's IV Conference, will continue to work for its first victory when they take on Cold Spring Harbor at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 in an away game.
