The Pride of Malverne High School Marching Band, former New York State champions, competed at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse the weekend before Hurricane Sandy and most recently placed second out of seven bands in the Small School 2 division. The second-place victory sealed an extensive history of success with the band, who for the past two years have placed first in their class.
“Our students perform at championships at such a high level year after year that the name ‘Malverne’ is associated with words such as pride, excellence and tradition,” assistant marching band director Glen Johnson said of the high school ensemble. “They exceeded expectations, did their absolute best and clearly had one of the best performances of the morning. I’m extremely proud of them and cannot wait until next year!”
Other band highlights from the 2012-13 season include:
- Placing first in their class at all regular season competitions – Brentwood, Copiague, Arlington, Walt Whitman and Mineola.
- Hosting their first-ever home competition this year on Sept. 30, 2012. Twelve bands, including Malverne, performed that day.
- Coming in second place out of seven bands in the Small School 2 class with a score of 83.10, only .25 points out of first place.
