Malverne Students Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Following a tradition spanning more than a quarter of a century, students from all four schools in the Malverne School District invited their families to join them as they brought Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy to life in a celebration of song, dance and dramatic performances. 

The 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Jan. 17 featured a video presentation, followed by performances by high school soloists, MAC kindergartners, first- and second-graders, the fourth- and sixth-grade choruses, the Harmony Club, the high school mixed chorus and the high school dance group. The emcees for the evening were high school seniors Amelia Bennett and Sigourney Ann Hessic.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. humanitarian awards. This year’s honorees were high school teacher Anastasia Caputo and Marlene Mark, a teacher at Davison Avenue Intermediate School. 

Each honoree received a commemorative plaque from the district, as well as a certificate of recognition from the Town of Hempstead.
