Playoff Preview: Lynbrook vs. Plainedge

Owls, Red Devils meet at Hofstra tonight in semifinal match-up.

When Lynbrook and Plainedge met on the field Sept. 16, a lightning storm forced the second half of the game to be postponed, but the Owls (8-1) eventually emerged as the victor, winning 42-21.‬

Tonight, with a forecast of clear skies, top-seeded Lynbrook (8-1) is hoping for a different type of electricity — the kind its team has played with in every game leading up to this Nassau Conference III semifinal match-up against No. 6 Plainedge (5-4) at Hofstra University. ‬
‪
"We will play tough defense tonight and our signature high-powered offense," said Lynbrook coach Steve Locicero.‬

Lynbrook is coming off a dominating 42-0 win over Manhasset in the quarterfinal round. Plainedge knocked off Bethpage, 17-6, in its quarterfinal match-up. Both games were played on Nov. 6.

, host Plainedge found themselves outplayed on both offense and defense. The Owls ran all over them, scoring 42 points in the game. And the defense stymied Plainedge's attack, with Lynbrook scoring two of its touchdowns off turnovers.

But don't write off Plainedge. The Red Devils have proved to be a resilient team, even defeating Lawrence (7-2), 21-20, on Oct. 8. (The Owls' only loss came against Lawrence on Oct. 23.)
