Battle of the Rams: West Hempstead GIrls Soccer Loses to Clarke

In a 3-1 victory, the Clarke's Lady Rams are now 4-0-2 in the Conference V (A2) while West Hempstead's Rams are 3-2-1.

The Clarke girls soccer team defeated West Hempstead (3-2-1) on Tuesday afternoon, 3-1.  

After scoring two goals in the first half, and then one in second, the Lady Rams of Clarke High School are now 4-0-2 in the Conference V (A2), while West Hempstead's Lady Rams are 3-2-1.

The game started off slow with both teams struggling to get the better of each other in the first 25 minutes. Clarke's Nicole Russell finally scored the first goal of the game at 25:43, followed by Samantha Goodwin at the 16:52 mark. Hope Quinonez garnered assists on both goals.

In the second half, both teams played solid defense up until the 13:05 mark when Jennifer Wahlig scored with an assist by Samantha Goodwin to give the Rams a 3-0 edge.

With 13 minutes left to go, West Hempstead was in crisis mode. Not until the final seconds of the game did Clarke foul West Hempstead, allowing for one shot from the penalty kick mark with a window of two seconds. Olivia Czavar scored West Hempsteads only goal, making the final score 3-1.

"This is the best game we've played this season so far," Clarke Coach Becky Wachsberger. "We all played well. West Hempstead is a tough team. They really made us earn our victory today."

West Hempstead's goalie Kristen Mongelluzzo had five saves. Clarke keeper Christina Pappas had seven saves.

"We didn't get it done today," West Hempstead Coach Michael Scaturro said. 

Up next, Clarke will face Valley Steam on Saturday in a non-league game. West Hempstead will be facing Bethpage on Saturday for a league game.
