West Hempstead Student Appointed to U.S. Naval Academy

Senior Jason Steiner wants to give back by serving his country.

"Ex Scientia Tridens!"  

That motto, which means "From Knowledge Seapower," will be one that West Hempstead High School senior Jason Steiner will be living out very soon when he enters into the United States Naval Academy.

Steiner recently received an appointment to the Academy, according to a spokesman for the West Hempstead school district, who added, "Jason’s desire to give back to others and his country will make him an ideal academy cadet."

His calm, pragmatic approach to situations, will enable Steiner to overcome any challenges ahead as he joins roughly 4,000 other midshipman at the academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

In addition to excelling academically, Jason is a committed athlete who excels in cross country, winter and spring track.  He also volunteers in many community activities including Habitat for Humanity, the Lutheran Youth Organization, the Lutheran Student Council and the Pinecrest Lutheran Leadership Camp. Additionally, Jason budgets his time to work at a construction job and at a local summer camp.
