Whiz Kid: Kathryn Postiglione

A column that will honor the top students in the Lynbrook community.

This week's Whiz Kid is 7-year-old Kathryn Postiglione!

  • Name: Kathryn Postiglione
  • Age: 7
  • Accomplishment: Winner of Astoria Federal Savings Annual Essay Contest.
  • Key to Awesomeness: Postiglione used hard work and a good idea to win first place in the annual essay contest. She submitted the winning entry at the Lynbrook Branch and with her savings, Postiglione plans to buy a soccer ball company and create educational soccer balls to help children learn while they play.
  • More than 1,300 essays were received from the participating neighborhood branches throughout Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and Westchester from children ages 5-12 and Postiglione selected as the top writer.
  • Postiglione and her family recently visited Astoria Federal Savings’ Lake Success headquarters, where she received her award including a $500 U.S. Savings Bond, a Teach Children to Save Certificate, and an Education First medal from Assistant Branch Manager George Laughney.

Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kid honoree.

Each week, Lynbrook Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid.
