Lynbrook Loses to Garden City in Four Sets

Memorable game for seniors as season ends with hard-fought game.

Senior captains Taylor Garrett and Stephanie Monahan both had standout games as host Lynbrook battled third-place Garden City on Oct. 29. Garden City came through with the win in four sets to win 3-1. Lynbrook is now 1-11 in Conference A-1 and overall play. Garden City finishes the season with a conference record of 7-5 and an overall record of 9-5.

Hero — Senior captains Garett and Monahan had good games for Lynbrook as they kept their team in the game most of the day. Garett had two aces, seven kills and 11 assists. Monahan had five aces, five kills and three blocks. Caitlin Christy had 13 assists. Due to their great play, the Lady Owls hung in the game and gave Garden City a run for their money. They truly saved their best game for last as the team really came together in the final game of the season.

Turning Point — The fourth set of the day proved to be the most intense one. Garden City was up 2-1 on Lynbrook. Lynbrook previously lost the last set in dramatic fashion, 25-22, as the girls came back from a seven-point deficit. Lynbrook actually had the lead in the last set of the day, but a tough Garden City team fought back and reclaimed it. Garden City went on to build a lead of three points, but the Lady Owls had to have one more say before things were done. They tied up the set at 22 apiece, but couldn't find the winning points as Garden City went on to win the set and game.

Quote — Coach Natalie Hamilton said after the game, "We always play Garden City tough. We really tried to make this a game for the seniors. Garden City is a team that doesn't give up and we had a lot of fun out there today. That is the most important part of the sport."

Bottom Line — Lynbrook made its last game of the season a memorable one as they put up a very good fight against a good Garden City team. Although they did not win, Hamilton said, they had fun. All the girls contributed to making this game as close as possible to give their seniors a memory to take with them.
