Malverne Boys Clinch Top Spot, Lady Mules Wrap Up Season

Malverne boys finish season strong, Lady Mules lose close games.

Mules' Varsity Boys Clinch Top Spot

Malverne played conference rival Friends Academy on Tuesday and beat the Quakers for the second time this season 44-41.

"It was a big game for us," said Coach Darrol Lopez. "We were both fighting for the top spot in the conference. Our two seniors, Xavier Bernard and Anthony Moultre really stepped up for us and shot well."

"It was our last home game for the seniors," said Coach Lopez. "We all played well on defense and we had good shooting from the outside. Xavier shot particularly well for us tonight."

Sophomore Andre Berry had his second best game of the season scoring 12 points.

The Mules capped off their regular season with a final victory, 74-60, over Oyster Bay last night. They will continue on to the playoffs.

Lady Mules Play Final Matches

It might have been a different outcome for the Lady Mules if leading scorer Amanda Masson did not get hurt in the fourth quarter against Friends last Tuesday.

The junior center rolled her ankle early in the fourth quarter in a tightly contested game that the Quakers were able to win 36-29.

"They had us by only one point at halftime," said Coach Mike Pelan. "After Amanda got hurt in the fourth quarter they were able to pull away."

Masson had 14 points in the game to lead all scorers.

Fridays game against Locust Valley was not as close as the Lady Falcons built up a 16 point lead at halftime 26-10. They beat Malverne 47-31.

Junior forward Tion Noel recorded one of her best games of the season with 15 points.

The Lady Mules lost their final game of the season at home to Oyster Bay last night by only a few points with a score of 39-44.
