WH Native Collects Third ‘Rookie of the Week’ Award at Hofstra

Hofstra University freshman attack/midfielder Becky Conto continues to cement herself as one of the top rookies in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) as the first year player was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

The West Hempstead resident previously garnered CAA Rookie honors on March 25 and April 8.

It is the fourth straight week that Hofstra has won the award from the CAA as freshman attack Emily Considine was named the rookie of the week on April 1.
Conto continued her strong rookie campaign as the talented first-year player had seven draw controls and four goals in the Pride’s two games.

She opened the week with four draw controls in Hofstra’s 9-8 triple overtime loss against James Madison on Friday before notching a career-high and game-high four goals in the 18-7 win over George Mason on Sunday.

Conto now has 23 draw controls over the Pride’s last four games, an average of nearly six per contest.This season she ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 17 points on 14 goals and three assists. She also has 40 draw controls, 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers. She ranks second on the team in draw controls.

The Sacred Heart Academy graduate started for West Hempstead's varsity program as an eighth grader at West Hempstead Middle School.

Hofstra (8-6, 2-2 CAA) will host CAA-leading Towson on Friday at 7 p.m. in its next contest.
