Malverne Civic to Host Labor Day Picnic

Malvernites invited to celebrate Labor Day at Whelan Field Monday.

Looking for something to do this Labor Day?

Instead of the crowded beaches, a long drive out East or hosting a BBQ at home on Monday, you can join your neighors at , where the Malverne Civic Association is hosting its second annual Labor Day picnic for the community.

Families are encouraged to come down to the ball field (located off of Ocean Avenue) on Sept. 5 at noon with lawn chairs, blankets or tents. Bring your own food and drinks too.

The civic will be providing the entertainment, including live music, courtesy of Christine Solimeno, activities and and plenty of merriment. There will be an egg race, water balloon toss, three-legged race and other picnic-type festivities.

"We are looking forward to seeing friends, family and all Malverne residents enjoying this last day of summer with us,"  said Suzanne Kraemer-Parra, vice president of the civic. "I hope to see as many residents and their families as possible."

Last year the picnic brought out a number of families, who enjoyed the activities, shared food and danced throughout the day, according to Kraemer-Parra.

"It was a testament to how much fun this town can have when we come together to celebrate," she said. "Everyone was neighborly, friendly and outgoing...it was the perfect end to the summer."
