Puppies, cats, bunnies, goats and a tortoise were among the animals hanging out at the on April 29.
The event brought together adoptable pets and animal lovers, while raising funds for Courageous Cats and Fur Babies, two local rescue groups. The backyard of the Joseph L. Landers Memorial Restoration home was filled with vendors selling pet-themed products, baked goods and chances to win more than 20 raffle baskets, with the proceeds going to the two rescue organizations.
Courageous Cats, based in Malverne, also brought many of its adoptable felines to the event, in hopes of finding good homes for them, while Fur Babies, of East Rockaway, did the same for its rescue dogs. Andre Ricaud, of Party Pets, the owner of Malverne Mel, also brought several of his animals including sheep, goats, bunnies, a tortoise, and a chicken. No, they weren't up for adoption, but many kids enjoyed playing with them in the small petting zoo that was set up.
The day also included free dog treats and consultants with a veterinarian, a silent photography auction, which proceeds also going to the causes, and Father Frank Parisi, of , stopped by to bless the animals.
