Lynbrook's Kacey Carter Leads Lady Owls Lacrosse

The junior midfielder has been one of the Owls' top players on the field.

With a win over league opponent Bethpage on May 7, the Lynbrook varsity girls lacrosse team captured the Conference B-II title. And despite being a young team, the Lady Owls looked dominant after having a tough opening to their season schedule this year. The future of the program is looking bright, with the team having an undefeated conference record and promising playoff bid ahead.

One of Lynbrook’s starters, junior Kacey Carter, has emerged as a star for the Lady Owls since joining the varsity squad as a freshman. Carter is one of Lynbrook's top midfielders, a position she took on after playing the attack position for her first two seasons.

As a freshman, Carter scored 12 goals and seven assists as she began to find out what the high school lacrosse game was all about. In her sophomore season, she was one of the team leaders in goals with 26, along with 10 assists. Her hard work and improvement during each offseason is prevalent, as this past season, Carter has scored an impressive 32 goals and 12 assists through Lynbrook’s first 12 games.

“I play all year long on a club team and I work out indoors at Turf Island with Donny Borges and Pat McCabe. I constantly try to improve myself nonstop all year,” Carter said.

Each year on the varsity team, Carter has helped Lynbrook reach either the first or second round of the playoffs. This year, Lynbrook heads into the playoffs as one of the top teams in Nassau County.

Carter displays her high level of speed and stamina on the lacrosse field, an essential reason for her switch to midfield. These attributes have helped her stand out as a key member of the Lynbrook cross country team in the fall and indoor track team in the winter.

She received All Conference honors in cross country in 2010 while helping Lynbrook become both division and conference champions as the team captain. She also received All Conference in winter track in both 2010 and 2011.

There is no doubt that Carter is an exceptional athlete, but she is equally as impressive in the classroom and in her participation in extracurricular activities. She holds a 96 average (4.0 GPA) through her three years and is a member of the National Honor Society. Her academic achievements enabled her to receive a Scholar Athlete Award in both cross country and lacrosse.

Carter is a managing editor for Lynbrook’s award-winning school newspaper, Horizon, a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the Leadership/Key Club, and Student Government as the treasurer for the junior class. Carter is an active volunteer at the Titans girls lacrosse clinics. Titans offers instructional lessons on the basics of lacrosse for children looking to get into the sport.

Carter has already attracted attention from multiple schools for her athletic talents. Amongst the interested institutions are Quinnipiac University, Fairfield University, Marist College, Marymount University, American University and Binghamton University. Aside from athletics, she is interested in pursuing a career in athletic training, as well as becoming a lacrosse coach.

“I’m looking forward to my athletic career at whichever college I go to,” Carter added. “It will be interesting to balance time between school and a challenging athletic program, but I will use all of my past experiences to help me out.”

Carter maintains a personal online recruiting profile, which includes statistics, videos and pictures of her career thus far at Lynbrook.
