Kennedy

Boys Basketball: Kennedy fell to Friends Academy on Tuesday by a 54-45 final score. Chris Racalbuto scored nine points for the Cougars in the opening round of the Bethpage Holiday Tournament, but the team was unable to stop Kellan Sehring, who had 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kennedy then lost to Bethpage in the consolation game of the tournament on Wednesday by a 51-43 score.

Girls Basketball: Kennedy lost a non-league game to Plainedge on Wednesday by a score of 49-34. Heather Hulkower scored a game-high 13 points for the Lady Cougars, who are now 3-2 overall on the season.

East Meadow

Boys Basketball: East Meadow won in the semifinals of the Great Neck South Tournament against host school Great Neck South by a score of 61-51. Joe Campay scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the strong effort. The Jets will play Plainview JFK in the finals on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

Boys Basketball: East Rockaway fell in a close game to Lynbrook on Tuesday by a 61-56 final. The Rocks led by eight points at halftime, but gave up the lead in the final 16 minutes of play. Mikey Lores scored a team-high 13 points and both David McClure and Sean Bohan added 12 in the effort.

Girls Basketball: East Rockaway lost to Lynbrook at home on Tuesday, 49-36. Marykate Vulpis scored a team-high 11 points in the effort. The Lady Rocks are now 2-3 on the season.

Hewlett

Boys Basketball: Hewlett lost a tough home game to South Side last Thursday by a 63-53 final. Dimitri Baptiste led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Harrison Brenner added 13. Leading scorer Avery Feldman was limited to just six points.

Lawrence

Boys Basketball: Lawrence lost a game that went right down to the wire last Friday against Chaminade. The Golden Tornadoes fell by a 74-72 final score despite 28 points from Dwayne Daniel, including six three-pointers. Eddie Robinson had 17 points as well.

Wrestling: Lawrence defeated Lynbrook in a dual meet last Thursday by a close 46-41 margin. Pankil Chander (120 pounds) picked up one of the Golden Tornadoes’ seven wins. Akil Mavruk clinched the match with a pin at 220 pounds.

Boys Basketball: Garden City dropped a road game to Oyster Bay last Thursday by way of a 51-44 final. Dan Bonchonsky led all scorers with 17 total points in the effort. Spencer Bais added nine points for the Trojans.

Division

Boys Basketball: Division continued its early-season struggles with a 57-45 loss at home to Seaford. Ryan Birmingham scored a game-high 23 points and Colby Lapp added 12 in the effort.

Girls Basketball: Division fell in a game to Sacred Heart by a 47-16 final score in the Freeport Tournament on Wednesday.

Island Trees

Boys Basketball: Island Trees fell to Plainview JFK by a 40-29 score Wednesday in the semifinals of the Great Neck South Tournament. The Bulldogs were limited offensively for much of the game as Vinny Vetrone was the lone player to reach double-digits for the team with 11 points.

Bowling: The boys team defeated Wantagh by a 2-1 score last Thursday led by the play of Justin Kamph.

Boys Basketball: Lynbrook defeated Mineola at home last Friday by a 52-36 final score. Rocco Scibelli led the Owls with 11 points and Johnny Emmerich added 10 points and nine rebounds. Mike McVeigh collected a team-high seven assists to go along with eight points. On Tuesday, the Owls defeated East Rockaway, 61-56, behind 13 points each from McVeigh and Patrick Geiger. Matt Murphy added 11 points as Lynbrook knocked down eight three-pointers in the win.

Girls Basketball: Lynbrook defeated East Rockaway on Tuesday by a 49-36 final score. Brooke Gerstman, one of the leading scorers in Nassau County, poured in 27 points. Danielle Amaya scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lady Owls.

Bowling: The Lynbrook boys team topped Freeport after taking a decisive third set, 817-720 to win 2-1. Cameron Lohr led in the clinching series with a 235.

Girls Basketball: Malverne lost to Wantagh in the opening round of the Freeport Tournament on Wednesday by a 53-29 final score. Alexis Lopez scored 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers, in the effort.

Boys Basketball: Calhoun defeated Wantagh in a non-league game Wednesday by a 60-46 final score. Tom Joannou scored a team-high 14 points and Brian Downey added 13, including three three-pointers. Danny Trepel and Tommy Murphy both chipped in with 11 points each.

Chaminade

Boys Basketball: Chaminade topped a tough opponent on the road in Lawrence last Friday with a 74-72 win. John Gallego scored a team-high 18 points, Mike Walsh added 17, including three three-pointers, and Patrick Farrell scored 13 in the non-league matchup. The Flyers then defeated Floral Park on Tuesday by way of a 72-42 score. Brian Ehrhardt scored a team-high 20 points and Walsh added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Gallego scored 15 to go along with six assists.

Mineola

Boys Basketball: Mineola fell behind in the first half at Lynbrook and couldn't catch up, falling 52-36 last Friday. Mike Waszchuk represented a bright spot for the Mustangs with a game-high 20 points, 14 of which came from the free throw line. 

Boys Basketball: South Side topped Hewlett on the road last Thursday by a 63-53 final score. The Cyclones led by just one at the half, but widened their margin over the final two quarters. Ryan Spadaford led with 17 points and seven rebounds and Kevin Coyle added 12 points. On Tuesday, The Cyclones defeated Valley Stream Central, 70-41. Spadaford scored a team-high again with 22 points and nine rebounds. Coyle added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Pichioni scored nine in the win.

Girls Basketball: South Side lost to Carle Place by a 47-39 score last Thursday. Allison Bannon led the Lady Cyclones in the non-league game with nine points. The team followed up with a 42-32 win against Valley Stream Central on Wednesday in the Freeport Tournament. Bridget Kiernan led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds for 3-2 South Side.

Boys Basketball: Seaford defeated Division on the road last Friday, 57-45, after outscoring its opponent by 12 in the second half. James Curley scored a team-high 15 points and Steven Adorno put in 14 for the Vikings.

Girls Basketball: Seaford defeated Roslyn by a 49-44 final at home last Thursday. Jessica Rini scored a game-high 16 points and Kathryn Siler scored 14 points, including the last four for the Lady Vikings to clinch the win.

Boys Basketball: Wantagh lost to Calhoun on the road Wednesday by a 60-46 final score. Justice Perez scored 14 points and both Gerard Roche and Eric Regenbogen added 10 for the Warriors.

Girls Basketball: Wantagh defeated Plainedge at home last Thursday by a final score of 52-26. Tara Basile led the Lady Warriors with 13 points and Alex Parlato pitched in with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Ten different players scored for Wantagh in the strong effort. Wantagh followed up with a 53-29 win over Malverne on Wednesday in the Freeport Tournament. Christina Peden scored a game-high 14 points to go along with nine assists. Parlato had six points and 11 rebounds.

Boys Basketball: West Hempstead defeated Carey/Sewanhaka on the road last Thursday by a 78-53 final score. Tyree Glascoe posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 assists, both game-highs. Ray Alexander had 17 points and Darren Davy added 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Rams then lost to Elmont on Tuesday by a 63-44 final. Glascoe scored a game-high 23 points as the team fell in the semifinals of the Hank Williams Tournament hosted at Malverne High School.

Girls Basketball: West Hempstead fell in a home game to Locust Valley by a 36-27 final score Wednesday. The Lady Rams were downed by a late 11-0 run from Locust Valley to end the game. Jackie Christenson scored a team-high 11 points and her sister, Nicole, scored eight in the effort.
